Listening & Activity notes

You can gain greater compliance with listening when children have their own listening corner and basket filled with activities that ONLY come out when the headphones go on for listening!

Please consider before starting your listening session:

Am I in a safe place?

Am I feeling relaxed?

Is the room I’m in relatively quiet?

Art Ideas –

Note: you may wish to date some samples to track changes

Quality “German” Beeswax crayons in a tin. A favorite for their brilliant colors that apply to paper so smoothly and beautifully.

Cray-Pas Oil Pastels Original oil pastels that come in extremely rich colors with a creamy feel. Colors blend to make a dramatic effect

Colored pencils- the ones that you can use wet or dry are very nice.

Origami - but not following directions – just folding figures that you know how to

Watercolors

Finger Painting

A collage - Make a collage by cutting pictures from magazines and pasting onto paper. Choose a theme such as food, exercise, or a specific color. Cover front and back with clear adhesive shelf liner for a waterproof placemat you can use again and again!

Ed Emberley’s Great Thumbprint Drawing Book - This classic will show you how to use your own thumb to create darling cartoon illustrations! Simple step-by-step instructions teach you to make funny facial expressions, animals, people and more. Set comes with washable grape scented stamp pad, needed for making those thumbprints.

Tactile Play

Squeeze balls – textured, filled with water, etc.

Mars Mud™

Tactile, metallic, squishy, oozy, bouncy and fragrant. Much more fun than silly putty (say some kids)

Legos - You can purchase mini-kits that can be assembled in about 15 minutes – perfect for one listening module!

Play Doh™ or homemade playdough with sculpting tools like garlic press, wooden knife, rolling pin and cookie cutters

Soft Modeling Clay or Sculpey Clay
