"Not for profit, not for charity, but for service"
Gateway Credit Union was founded in 1961 by Roger Chantal, an employee
of J.F. McElwain Shoe Company of Nashua. With just $150 and 13 initial members,
Roger created Gateway Credit Union as an alternative savings and loan organization
for his fellow employees. His motto, "Not for profit, not for charity, but
for service" served its members well and the credit union grew quickly.
Gateway continued to grow and now has offices in Hudson and Nashua and over
25 million dollars in assets and thousands of members from local communities.
Serving the local community
Today, Gateway continues to serve the local community and local businesses
with the same standard of service Roger Chantal envisioned. Gateway has recently begun to reach out to the area’s growing Hispanic community
with Spanish language forms and Spanish speaking employees. Gateway
draws its employees from local high schools and colleges. Gateway’s
Managers and Directors are all area residents. While many banks have "gone
national" and lost their local character, Gateway continues to be an integral
part of, and service to, the local community.
